For a time such as this…

For a time such as this

“And there was famine in the land… Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.” Gen 26:10, 12

Globally the economy looks bleak, nothing seem to be improving, rather things seem to be getting worse by the day. Is there any hope anywhere, can anything good come out of these times? Is it possible to still make “profits” even in these days?

These have been some of the questions on the minds of many. However the scriptures that have been most pressing in my mind recently is Gen 26:12 – the story of Isaac sowing in famine and reaping a hundred fold.

It has been said that “recession” is just another word for modern day famine. And since the scriptures are true, then it should be a great comfort remembering that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Heb 13:8. In other words, if He could prosper Isaac right in the midst of famine, then He can and will prosper you too. “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land.” Is 1:19

If anything at all, what people need these days are encouragement and a positive outlook on life, but more importantly, a closer work with God. I recently read an article in a community newsletter and was very pleased to read “that job is mine in 2009”…or something to that effect. Talk about the power of positive thinking!

It is time to practice Phil 4:8: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Until next time, ponder on these and believe with God all things are possible!
